Portfolio Night 7. To be or not to be?

Anyone who's anyone on the junior circuit will be well aware of the forth coming Portfolio night 7 - scheduled for June 11th this year.

In 2008 JWT hosted the London leg , and it was a real success. Everyone got placements, as well as a free mug and T-shirt*, and all was right with the World.

So this year i've been keeping an eye on their website, www.portfolionight.com,  to find out when the tickets will be available, only to find out that London (as well as many other cities around the World) has yet to find a host for the event.

Which seems strange. The teams that turn out are usually pretty clued up, the CDs** that give the crits usually find some potentially good new blood, and it's another night for everyone involved to get nicely sauced.

If nobody steps forward soon, PN7 ain't gonna happen in London - which will be a real shame. And another kick in the goolies for the juniors out there...

*Not strictly true, the tickets were £15 or something.
** Except Mr Fink, who i saw make someone cry last year. Oh snap.

Hey Ronnie,

Believe me, we're working as hard as we can to bring Portfolio Night back to London this year! It would be a shame for one of the great ad cities of the world to miss out. We just need one brave and bold agency to lead the charge.

Feel free to get in touch with us with any questions you might have. If we have to bring this up from the grassroots, that's what we'll do!

Hi! This isn't really about portfolio night. You left a comment on my blog about the song :) It's actually from Todd Rundgren, but I haven't heard it from the Duets?

By the way I bookmarked your blog, it's very interesting! Hope to keep in touch.

As a team graduating this year, it seems like a good idea to try and go to this.
Although, It also seems that it's more for teams that have maybe already had some placements under their belts.

Would you recommend going, or should we stick to the individual book crits?

Cheers

@Mimi

You're right, it would be a shame if an Agency doesn't come forward from London, costs them next to nothing (i'm sure the bar at JWT did a roaring trade last year) and if nothing else it's a great bit of PR surely?

@Setareh

I did a bit of research, it's the same song but sung in a less dramatic fashion in Duets (a cheesy Gwyneth Paltrow karaoke film). What a tune! Nice blog by the way :) Nice name too!

@ Luke and Wilf

If they stage a London one, def try and get tickets! It gives you access to some CDs who are very hard to get your book in front of. Even if you aren't offered anything, you can make some really good contacts and it's a great experience.

Luke & Wilf GOOO!!!

We went last year for the first time, and that's where we landed our first placement.

Definitely worth going no matter what level you're at, it's a chance to get to see people you wouldn't normally see, speak to other people in the same situation and enjoy a good beer (or two - in Ronnie's case)
